MADRID, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Spain have picked Logrono as the venue for their Davis Cup first-round tie against Switzerland in March, when they will begin their bid for a third successive title, the country's tennis federation (RFEF) said on Tuesday.
The March 5-7 tie will take place on clay at the Plaza de Toros de Ribera bullring in the north of the city, capital of the northern wine-growing region of La Rioja, the federation said on its website (www.rfet.es).
The arena has a seating capacity of 11,000 and a retractable roof.
The Spanish, led by world number two Rafael Nadal, are undefeated in 18 home ties stretching back to April 1999 when they lost 3-2 to Brazil in Lerida, and have a 4-1 winning record against the Swiss.
World number one Roger Federer was quoted as saying last week by Swiss daily Blick that he was unavailable for the tie as he was reluctant to play on clay immediately before the hardcourt Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami.
