The deal will also include a reduction in hours for workers at Royal Mail, which employs 121,000 staff. The deal must now be approved by union members.

"This agreement is good for the business as it allows Royal Mail to get on with its modernisation," Adam Crozier, Royal Mail group chief executive said in a statement.
