Thousands of teenagers in Wales are preparing to find out the results of their GCSEs after two years of study. The official results will be published at 0930 BST.Last year 63% of entries were given the top A* to C grades, a slight rise on the year before, although the overall pass rate fell by 0.1% to 98%.Figures from 2007 also showed the gap between boys' and girls' achievements was narrowing, although it still remained significant. On average, girls outperformed boys, with 66.5% passing at grades A* to C, compared to 59.3% of boys.In 2007, the numbers taking the traditional foreign languages of French and German also fell prompting concerns about the future of language learning, but there was some more encouraging news with a rise in the numbers taking Spanish.
